Over one million people commit suicide each year, making SUICIDE the 10th leading cause of death worldwide and a leading cause of death among teenagers and adults under 35.[1] According to WHO suicide rates statistics, one person commits suicide every 40 seconds.[1] And for every suicide, there are approximately 20 attempted suicides.[1] There are also many others who may not be suicidal, but urgently need access to appropriate emotional support services.
Suicide rates all over the world have increased by 5 - 62% in the last two decades.[1] Everyone can do something to help reduce the number of suicides.[1] Just listening to a troubled friend may help to prevent him or her from taking the suicidal way out of a problem.[1] And you can even do more by joining a suicide-prevention organization in your locality, such as Befrienders Worldwide or a similar organization.
